Magic Ring. The magic ring, also known as a magic circle is used as the foundation stitch for any round project. This is the crochet stitch that is best used for starting the center of your little crochet sunflowers. If you think the magic ring is too complicated, you can also use the chain two method, then skip the chain space closest to your hook, and make your stitches in the next chain space. Watch this short video, or read the step-by-step instructions in my easy tutorial.

Slip Stitch. A slip stitch is often used as a way of joining your stitches to the crochet project.

Chain Stitch. The chain stitch is another basic crochet stitch. This is a series of stitches that is often used as the foundation of a project, but in this case, it will help to create the sunflower petals.

Single Crochet. A single crochet stitch is a basic crochet stitch that is used to make the center of the flower. This is a nice stitch, because it is small, and tight, so there aren’t any holes in your project.

Treble Crochet. The treble crochet stitch is a taller stitch, that is also a basic crochet stitch. This stitch is usually three times the height of a single crochet stitch. In this pattern, it will be used to help create the sunflower petals.

    Sunflower Assembly

The main part of the sunflower is created as you work on the sunflower center and both layers of sunflower petals. But you will need to attach the backside of the crochet sunflower, and the crochet leaves to the flower.

When you attach the backside of the crochet sunflower, you will want to be especially careful, where you are stitching so that the wrong color doesn’t show through your sunflowers.

To assemble the back of the sunflower, use the green colored crochet thread to sew the green backing onto the backside of the flower. If you want, I sometimes like to add a little bit of stuffing to make it pop, it won’t take much.

After you have the backing sewn on, make sure to weave in any ends of the green color thread so that it’s not hanging out.

Now it’s time to attach the leaves. To do this, you will also want to use a sewing needle and green crochet thread. Sew through the green colored back, to attach the leaves. Sew until they are secured, then finish off and weave in any remaining ends of crochet thread.

Now your small crochet sunflower is finished and ready to use however you want to enjoy it!

    Mini Sunflower FAQs

    What is crochet thread?

Crochet thread is a special type of thread that you can use to make small or delicate crochet projects out of, rather than using normal yarn. One common brand of crochet thread is Aunt Lydia’s but Hobby Lobby also sells their own store version of the same crochet thread.

You can buy the crochet thread in a variety of colors, and use it to make all kinds of crochet projects. This is the type of crochet thread that is used for micro crochet, as well as crochet doily making.

Why should I use crochet thread instead of yarn?

I prefer to use crochet thread rather than yarn for this small crochet sunflower pattern because it allows you to make a smaller crochet project, that has a nice elegant finish to it. You can still use yarn for this pattern if you wish, but if you do this, your finished project will turn out larger than my little sunflowers did.

What Can I Make with Crochet Sunflowers?

These beautiful little crochet sunflowers make the perfect embellishment for any item. You can use them on cards, gifts, other crochet projects, or even make jewelry out of them. Really, you can make anything you want with these cute little crochet sunflowers.

Can I use a double crochet in place of the treble crochet?

Yes, if you want, you may use a double crochet stitch in place of the treble crochet stitch used to make the sunflower petals. Just know that the petals will turn out to be a little bit smaller. If you decide to use double crochet, then it is best to only chain three stitches, rather than 4, when making the flower petals.

    What is micro crochet?

Micro crochet is a type of crochet that uses crochet thread and small crochet hooks, to make very tiny crochet projects. These small sunflowers are a type of micro crochet pattern.

Where can I find such a small crochet hook?

The best place I have found to locate a 1.00 mm crochet hook is Hobby Lobby. My store carries several sizes of super small crochet hook sizes, and they are reasonably priced.

    Uses Little Yarn

One of the great things about making these little crochet sunflowers is that you will only need small amounts of yarn, or crochet thread to make a small sunflower.

    The Best Yarn to Use

Although you might have your favorite yarn, I would highly recommend that the best yarn to use for this micro crochet sunflower pattern is actually crochet thread. You can find this at your local craft store in a variety of different colors.
