The Basic Stitches
There are just a couple of basic crochet stitches used to make this easy pattern. The main stitches used are, a magic ring, chain stitch, slip stitch, double crochet stitches, and single crochet stitches.

Easy Crochet Baby Hat Pattern
Materials
1 Skein of soft – medium weight yarn is recommended but not required
Size H Crochet Hook (5.0 mm hook)– this is the recommended size, but feel free to adjust the size as needed.

Baby Crochet Hat Pattern
The Crown
Round 1: Make a mr, ch 2 sts, work 8 dc sts in the mr. Pull the ring tight, and join the round with a sl st. (8 sts)
Round 2: ch 3 sts, make 2 dc sts in each st around. Join with a sl st. (16 sts)



Round 3: ch 3 sts, make 2 dc sts in the first st, dc in the next st. Repeat (2 dc, dc) around, join with a sl st. (24 sts)
Round 4: ch 3 sts, make 2 dc sts in the first st, dc in the next 2 sts. Repeat, (2 dc, dc in the next 2 sts) repeat around. Join with sl st. (32 sts)
Round 5: ch 3 sts, make 2 dc sts in the first st, dc in the next 3 sts. Repeat, (2 dc, dc in the next 3 sts) repeat around. Join with sl st. (40 sts)
The Main Body of Hat
Round 6: Ch 3 sts, dc in each st around. Do not join, (40 sts)
Round 7 – 13: continue working dc sts in each st around. Using a stitch marker, mark the first dc st in each round. Move it out as you finish each round.



Brim (Hat Band)
Round 14 – 16: sc in each st around. Work in continuous rounds until you reach the end of round 16.


Join with a sl st to the first st made in the round. Cut the yarn, and pull through the loop on your hook. Weave in the ends to finish off.
Adding A Pom Pom
If you want to, you can easily make a yarn pom pom and add it to the top of the crochet baby hat. To do this, you will want to use yarn, a tapestry needle, scissors, and a serving fork.
Wrap the yarn around the serving fork, between 20-30 times. Then tie the center securely with yarn. Cut through the yarn on each end of the fork, to make it into a pom pom.
Thread a piece of yarn, through the tapestry needle, or yarn needle. Then sew the yarn pom pom securely to the top of the crochet baby hat. This finishes the hat off in a cute and easy way.
