My Favorite Lace for Headbands
I have often made crochet doilies over the years. In fact, they are one of my favorite things to make. These lace headbands are very similar to crochet doilies in that they have a lot of intricate detail to them, but don’t worry, they are not difficult to make.
I love these lace headbands because they are so intricate, yet beautiful, making them the perfect gift, or item to wear yourself. Not only are these lacey headbands beautiful, but they are also practical in a sense that they keep your hair out of your face, which of course is ideal.

Before you Begin
Before you start making your own handmade lace headbands, there are a couple of things you will want to consider. The main thing you will want to know before you get started in the head size of the person you are making the headband for.
This will be very helpful to you in getting the headband to turn out the right size. If you do not know the exact head measurements of the person you are making the headband for, never fear. I have an estimated size chart below that will help you out, or you might consider adding elastic or a long tie strap so that there is a little bit of wiggle room in sizing.

Tips and Tricks for Crochet Headbands
How to Sew Elastic Band onto the Project
If desired, you can add an elastic band onto your headband to hold it closed rather than using the tie straps. To do this, you will want to use some thin elastic, and make a small sewn tube out of the same color fabric as the yarn you are using.
Once your tube is created, fish your elastic through the tube holding onto one end, so that it doesn’t get lost in the tube. Sew the elastic in place at both ends of the tube, then either using your sewing machine or hand stitch the elastic band onto each side of your headband at the base.
Attaching to an Elastic Hair Tie
If one size fits all isn’t true for you, or you prefer to use an elastic band rather than ties, you can also use an elastic hair tie. To do this, crochet one side of the hair band to the base of your headband, then if desired you can tie a knot in the hair band before crocheting the other size to your lace headband.
With the elastic hair tie now attached, you can easily slide the headband on and off, without worrying about the tie.
