    Child’s Beanie Crochet Pattern Sizes

Making this crochet beanie pattern for your child in the right size is a key part. The great thing about this hat pattern is that it can be made so bad it fits your child just straight.

There are a few different ways to determine the size you should make. That is to measure the head circumference of the child you intend to make the hat for, or you can use this chart below with the average head sizes by different ages.

Remember, some children have larger heads than others. This chart is simply based on average head sizes. If your children are like mine, you might be of benefit to make it a little bit larger.

    0-3 months: 13.5 inches around

    3-6 months: 14-17 inches around

    6-12 months: 14-18 inches around

    Crochet Hat Size Estimates

In case you were wondering, this crochet hat pattern can also be made in larger sizes, so that you can enjoy an adult version as well. Adult sizes are just as easy to make has the children’s hat sizes. The main difference is that you will need a little more time, and a little bit more yarn. This pattern is a lot of fun, and one that the whole family can enjoy wearing during the cold weather.

Free Crochet Beanie Pattern Tips and Tricks

What kind of yarn works best?

You can of course use any yarn that you wish to make this child’s crochet beanie, but keep in mind the different yarn weights will mean you need to change your crochet hook size used, and will need more or less stitches. A good worsted weight yarn is always a great option.

My favorite yarn to use for a crochet hat is a nice, medium weight yarn. Hobby Lobby has many of my favorite yarns. Be sure to select one that you love the color, and feel of. That will make your project so much more enjoyable.

    Choosing your crochet hook size

Choosing the right, crochet hook size may depend on your stitching preferences. Above I have given my recommended hook size, but you can increase or decrease the hook size used, depending on your stitching attention. Feel free to increase or decrease the crochet hook size as needed. You can also reference the packaging to your skein of yarn for what size hook the manufacturer recommends you use.
