How to make your own boho dried flower arrangements

Step 1: Select Your Flowers

First, you will need to find or dry your own flowers. You can source dried flowers or dry them yourself. There are several different ways. You can source your own dried flowers through flower farmers that sell dried flowers or even freeze dried flowers. I’ll go into that more later, but here is a link to my favorite shop where you can purchase them.

If you choose to dry your own flowers, there are some types that work better to dry than others. Some of the best types of flowers and grasses to dry yourself, include straw flowers, gomphrena, and wild grasses that have that fluffy and on them. These all dry nicely and very easily if you want to dry your own flowers.

If you choose to dry your own flowers, you will simply want to cut them to your approximately length, and then tie them together by the stems with string or twine. Hang them upside down in a dry location for 7 to 14 days until they are completely dried out. Then you are ready to use them to make your bouquets.

Also, when selecting your flowers, make sure to keep your color scheme in mind. Whatever event or for whatever reason you’re making a dried flower bouquet, you may have a specific color scheme that you wish to stick with.

Step 3: Arranging the Bouquet

When you have your flowers and your workspace, ready, it’s time to get started. First I like to lay out my different types of flowers that I am using to make a bouquet. Arrange them by type.

Then use a large vase, preferably an extra large one so that there is plenty of space to move the dried flowers around in.

Place the flowers into the vase in your desired location until you have created your Boho dried flower bouquet to be your desired size. When you are satisfied with the arrangement of flowers, it’s time to finish it out.

Wrap the bouquet, if desired with tissue paper or brown paper, and then tie the bouquet with string, ribbon, or twine. You are boho dried flower arrangement is now finished and ready to be enjoyed!

Where to Get Dried Flowers

As I mentioned above, there are a couple of different options when it comes to sourcing your dried flowers to make into a boho dried flower arrangement. You can dry your own flowers, either flowers you have grown yourself or fresh flowers that you have purchased. Or you can buy already dried flowers and simply create your own bouquets.

Dry Your Own

You can dry your own flowers, but keep in mind that some types of flowers will dry better than others. The process of drying your own flowers is easy.

You will simply cut your flowers to your desired length, tie them in small bundles, using twine or string and hang them upside down in a dry location for several days, usually between seven and 14 days for them to completely dry out.

After the flower bunches are completely dried, you can cut the string and use the dried flowers in your flower bouquet arrangement.

The types of flowers that were the best to dry yourself by hanging them upside down are a straw flowers, gomphrena, roses, as well as other items such as wild grasses.

Shop Etsy

The other way that you can obtain dried flowers for your flower bouquet is to shop on Etsy for freeze dried flowers. Freeze drying involves using a specialized machine called a freeze dryer which can preserve flowers to look like they originally did when they are fresh.

Because of the freeze dried process, you can use many other types of dryad flowers in your Boho bouquet. Unfortunately, you can’t do this yourself unless you have a freeze dryer and get the same beautiful results. Therefore, Etsy is a great source to  find sellers who are able to preserve fresh flowers so that they are absolutely gorgeous.

My favorite seller to use is The Arbor Farm. This seller, who I also happened to know personally, has great options for dried flowers that can be shipped directly to you. Keep in mind there are other sellers who also have dried flowers that you can purchase, but this one is my favorite.
