Tips and Tricks

Hiding Yarn Ends

When you are finished making the blanket, you can use a crochet hook or tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends of yarn so that they are not hanging out of your blanket.

Making a Continuous Granny Square Blanket

Some granny square blankets are made by creating a lot of small granny squares and assembling them together into one large blanket. In this pattern, I walk you through a much easier process go make one continuous round granny square blanket. In my personal opinion it’s so much easier to do continuous rounds rather than stitching all of the little squares together just right.

Adjusting the Size of this Granny Square Blanket

Another great thing about this square crochet blanket pattern is that the finished size of the blanket is easily adjustable. You just keep working your way out through the stitch pattern until the blanket reaches your desired size.

Granny Square Variations

There are a lot of granny square variations that you can choose from. In this pattern we focus on the two main stitch types. The first is the traditional granny squares that uses the double crochet clusters. These granny clusters have spaces in between for holes in the blanket. The other type is the solid granny square stitch, which is like it’s name, solid.

Assembling the Blanket

Thankfully, with this pattern, there’s not a whole lot of assembly required, since it is worked in continuous rounds. Most granny square blankets would require you to make multiple small squares then assemble them by stitching them together into one large blanket.

Joining Method for Joining the Squares

Traditional granny squares require that the little squares be joined together. In this pattern, all you have to worry about is changing color by joining various colored yarn as you desire.

Add a Border

If you want to give your blanket a nice finished look when you are done, you can easily add a boarder to it. This helps to finish it off nicely.

The Type of Yarn

The type of yarn you use will determine what your blanket is like. I highly recommend using a nice worsted weight yarn, preferably in a medium weight if possible.

Crochet Hook Size

The crochet hook size that you use will depend on the yarn weight, and your stitching tension. I highly recommend using a 5.5 mm hook size 4 a number 4 medium worsted weight yarn. You can always double check the yarn label to see what size hook is recommended if you were using a different weighted yarn.
