Making a Bracelet with Your Fingers
Things You’ll Need
Colored Elastic Bands
Your fingers!
How to Make a Rubber Band chain Bracelet
Making the rubber band bracelet uses some very basic techniques. Let’s get started!
Step 1: The Set-Up
Using your pointer and middle finger, place one side of the elastic band onto the middle finger. Twist the band in half to form a figure 8 and set the other side on your pointer finger.
Step 2: Working the Bands
Take the second rubber band and place it over your pointer and middle fingers, near the top of your fingers. Do not twist the second band.
Take the bottom band, carefully pull it over the top rubber band, and remove it from your fingers. It will naturally set over the band still on your fingers in between your fingers.
Add the next band on top of your fingers, making the top band become the new bottom rubber band.
Carefully move the new bottom band over the top band and off of your fingers.
Step 3: Continue Until Correct Size
Repeat these steps until the rubber band bracelet is your desired length.
Step 4: How to Finish Off
To finish off the rubber band bracelet you can either use a “c” clasp if you are using a kit, or you can use an additional rubber band through both ends and tie it into a tight knot to hold the finished bracelet together.
Tip: Don’t worry if it takes a bit of practice to get the elastic bands to cooperate. Also, make sure you let yourself stretch the bands so that they are easier to work with and maneuver.
Common Questions
Do You Really Have to Buy the Loom?
No! You and your kids can easily enjoy making these rubberband bracelets using only your fingers and rubberbands.
Can rubber band bracelets be made without a hook?
Yes, you don’t need to use a hook when making these bracelets. Just your fingers will work.
Woven Rubberband Bracelet
To make a rubber band bracelet with the same method, but one that looks more woven when finished, you can follow the same steps, but add three bands to your fingers to start, rather than two.
This means that you will always have three bands on your fingers as you work. Let’s look at the steps to make this type of rubber band bracelet.
First, you will want to add the first rubber band that is twisted into a figure 8 shape on your middle and pointer fingers.
Then on top of that band, add two additional bands. Now you have a bottom, middle, and top elastic band.
Move the bottom band, off of your fingers, and in between them from both fingers. Now you have two bands on your fingers.
Add one more band on top. Then repeat the process of removing the bottom band over your fingers and towards the center between the two rubber bands.
Complete these steps until the brand bracelet has reached your desired length. Then finish it off by tying it together with an additional band or using a “c” clasp.
