Simple Knit Baby Blanket Pattern
In this free knitting pattern, I am excited to show you how to use our simple knit baby blanket pattern. In this free pattern, I will show you how to use a couple of simple stitches to make a lovely textured baby blanket. This is a great pattern to try if you are a beginner knitter, or have a little experience and are looking for a fun yet simple project to try.

I love this pattern because it looks impressive, like you really know what you are doing. But in reality it is pretty easy to make. I used two colors in this blanket, one for the border, and one for the main part of the blanket. This is not required, if you would rather make the entire blanket all one color, you absolutely can!

Easy Knit Blanket Pattern
Knit baby blankets are really nice to use for your newborn baby. This is a great way to keep your baby nice and cozy without overwhelming them with a big and bulky blanket. My babies love knitted blankets because they are so soft, breathable, yet cozy at the same time.
You can make these for your own children, or grandchildren, sell them at your local craft market, gift them at a baby shower, or give them away as a lovely Christmas gift. No matter the occasion, you can’t go wrong with this beautiful knit baby blanket.
Another great thing about this simple knit baby blanket pattern, is that it only uses a couple of simple stitches to knit this blanket. The stitch pattern is made using the basic knit stitch (created as a garter stitch), and the purl stitch. If you know how to knit and purl, or even if you want to learn how to make the simple knit and purl stitch, you can easily make this beautiful baby blanket.
Let’s get started by jumping into the step-by-step tutorial to make our simple knit baby blanket pattern.

Remember you may need to adjust the number of stitches you use depending on how wide you want your blanket to be and your stitching tension. You will want a total of 20 sts for the border and the remaining for the center of the blanket.

Tips and Tricks for the Simple Knit Baby Blanket
Do you need to use two colors for this baby blanket pattern?
Absolutely not! If you want to make it a lot easier on yourself, you can use just one color of yarn, or even variegated yarn to make this baby blanket. Then you don’t have to worry about switching colors, and twisting the two colors together. You can simply make the knit and purl stitches to create the pretty textured baby blanket.
Using Circular Needles
If you wanted to, you can absolutely use circular knitting needles for this baby blanket pattern. However, if you do, you may want to use a stitch marker at the end of your row, so that you can easily identify where to turn, so that your project doesn’t end up in a circle!
Determining the Number of Stitches
Keep in mind, you may need to adjust the number of stitches used to make this baby blanket if you want to make the baby blanket larger or smaller, or even if you have a different stitching tension. Feel free to adjust the total number of stitches as you wish, just remember to leave 10 stitches for the border on each side.
Using Bulky Yarns
It is definitely my preference to use chunky yarn when making a knitted blanket. That way the project works up so much faster. You can use other yarn weights if you prefer, but keep in mind you will need to adjust the number of stitches used to make up the difference.
