Repeat rows 3-6 until your project is large enough to reach around the christmas tree ornament. Then end or row 5 if possible so that it is a continual pattern all the way round the ball.

Step 2: Adding the Ornament Insert

Now finish off the stitching, leaving a long tail of yarn to work with. Thread a yarn needle with the long tail of yarn, and insert your needle through the 3 sl st end, through every other ridge. Pull the yarn tight to close the bottom.

Insert your ordament, so that the top is through the still open side.

Whip stitch around both hdc stitch ends to close the crochet project around the ball. Make sure that your stitches are nice and tight, so that they are invisible.

When you reach the top of the ornament, insert your yarn needle through every other ridge, then pull the yarn tight around the hanging hook. Tie it together with the beginning yarn tail, then weave both ends of the yarn in and cut off any extra.

Add a hanging loop if desired. I used some thin gold yarn, but you can use anything you have on hand, including extra yarn, twine, string,  or ribbon. You can also just use a wire hanging hook if you prefer.

Your handmade Christmas tree ball ornaments are now finished and ready to enjoy!

Crochet Ornaments Tips and Tricks

Selecting Your Crochet Hook Sizes

You may need to adjust the size of crochet hook that you use depending on a few things. If you use a different weight yarn you may need to adjust the size of hook you use. Your stitching tension will also determine what size of crochet hook you use. Feel free to increase or decrease the size of hook you use depending on these factors.

Using the Right Yarn Weight

This crochet pattern was designed using a #4 medium weight yarn, therefore this is what will work the best. You will also want to be careful to not use a larger weight as it may be too chunky, while a smaller yarn weight might be too thin.

The size of ball used

Remember that there are different sizes of Christmas tree ball decorations. This pattern is specifically designed to fit the size outlined in the materials section. If you are using a different size ball, you may need to adjust the crochet pattern to fit.
