Learning how to make a crochet flower doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, we are going to explore how you can make several different flowers, using some basic stitches and basic crochet skills.

crochet flower patterns

These cute little flowers are a great addition no matter if you are a beginner crocheter or have been crocheting for many years. These cute flowers make the perfect embellishment for another crochet project, or you can make a creation only using these flowers.

Plus, these crochet flowers are entirely free, with a detailed free pattern including several different flower varieties all made in different sizes. These are the perfect way to decorate another project like a headband, or you can enjoy making a flower garland as a decoration.

No matter what purpose you use these flowers for, I am so excited to show you how you can make them!

Let’s begin by looking at what materials you will need to make crochet flowers.

Why You’ll Love Crocheting Flowers

These beautiful crochet flowers are a lot of fun to make and they can be used in so many different ways. Making these crochet flowers are a lot of fun, and they are easy to do. If you are looking for a fun accent flower to your crochet project, then these flowers are a great place for you!

Materials Needed

Yarn

When it comes to the type of yarn to choose from, there are so many options. Deciding what weight to use, and if you should go with bright colors or pastels is another option completely.

Best Yarn for Making Flowers

The color of yarn you choose depends on your personal taste preferences and what you intend to do with these crocheted flowers.

The weight of the yarn is also up to your personal preferences. Keep in mind that a thicker yarn is going to make larger flowers, whereas a thin yarn or baby-weight yarn will make smaller flowers.

Some good options always include DK weight yarn or worsted weight yarn. You could also try making these crocheted flowers out of sport weight yarn if desired.

Because crocheted flowers are such a small project, you don’t have to have an entire skin to make a flower, you can use the scrap yard for this project as well.

Crochet Hook

The crochet hook size you decide to use will also depend on what type of yarn you use. Some of the most common sizes of crochet hooks to use include a 3.75 mm hook, which is a F, a 4.00 mm crochet hook, which is a G, or a 5.00 mm hook, which is a size H crochet hook.

You can always reference your yarn packaging to determine what the suggested size hook is for your specific yarn. You can also use a crochet gauge to determine if your stitches are small or if they are large.

If you tend to crochet tighter, then you want to select a larger crochet hook, but if you crochet more loosely, then you’ll want a smaller hook to keep your flowers nice and tight.
