Tips and Tricks
Selecting the Right Yarn to Use
There are so many different types of yarn to choose from. Choosing the right kind of yarn can make a difference in how your crochet ribbon turns out. Because of this, my favorite yarns to use are 100% cotton. You can find this type of yarn in Lyon Brand’s 24/7 cotton yarn line, or Hobby Lobby has their own brand of 100% cotton yarn. This yarn is so nice and soft, making it the perfect thing to use for hair ribbons.
Different Yarn Weight
Although my favorite yarn to use for these crochet hair ribbons is cotton yarn, you can use other types of yarn as well. It is going to work out best if you use a medium weight yarn, or fine yarn, rather than chunky yarn, which is not ideal for this type of project.
Remember, if you do decide to use a different yarn weight, you may need to adjust the hook size you use, as well as realize that the finished size of your hair ribbon may be different.
The Hook Size
In the above pattern, I have given you my suggested crochet hook size when you use the cotton yarn recommended. However, if you change the type of yarn you use, you will also want to consider changing the size of the crochet hook you use.
Adding it as an Attachment
If you want, you can choose to add the hair ribbon as an attachment to an alligator clip, or hair tie. If you want to add it to an alligator clip, it will work best to tie your hair bow in a knot, then use hot glue to attach the back of the bow center knot to the alligator clip. If you wish to add it to a hair tie, you can simply tie the hair ribbon in a knot around the hair band.
