Round Crochet Placemat Pattern
Materials
100% cotton yarn – I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton but any will work. I used a little bit over one skein of yarn for every two placemats made.
J 6.00 mm crochet hook
A stitch marker
Abbreviations
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
mc – magic circle or mr – magic ring
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st/sts – stitch/stitches
hdc – half double crochet
tr – treble crochet
sk – skip
The Free Round Placemat Pattern
R1. Make a mc, ch 3, 14 dc sts, join with a sl st. (15 dc sts)
R2. Ch 4, dc in next st, ch 1, *dc in next st, ch 1* repeat from * to * around.
R3. Sl st into the first ch 1 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same st. *Sc in the next ch 1, sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 1 st. In the next ch 2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.* repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st.
R4. Sl st into the first ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, *in the next ch 3 sp, work 7 dc sts. In the next ch ch 2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st.
R5. Sl st into the first ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, *dc, ch 1 in the next dc st, and in the next 6 sts, ch 2, in the next ch 2 sp work, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.* repeat around. Join with a sl st to the first st.
R6. Sl st into the first ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, skip the next ch 2 sp, *in the next ch 1 sp, sc, (ch 3, sc in the next ch 1 sp,) repeat from ( to ) 4 times more. Ch 2, skip the next ch 2 sp, in the next ch 2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2.* repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st.

R12. Sl st into the first ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, *ch 3, sc in the next ch 3 st, ch 2, (dc in the next dc, ch 1) repeat from ( to ) repeat 8 times more. Ch 2, sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3, in the next ch 2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc. Skip the next two ch 2 sps, in the next sp make, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st.
R13. Ch 4, in the same st make 6 tr sts, skip the next 2 dc sts, the ch sts and the dc st. Sc in the next dc st. Sc in the ch 3 sp, ch 4, sc in the next ch 3 st, *(sc in the dc st and in the ch st) repeat 7 times more. Sc in the last dc st and in the next ch 3 st. Ch 4, and sc in the next ch 3 st, sc in the next dc st. Skip the next 2 dc, ch 2 and 2 dc sts. In the space between make 7 tr sts. Skip the next 2 dc, ch 2 sp and dc sts. Sc in the next dc st, and the next ch 3 sp. ch 4, sc in the next ch 3 sp.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st.
Finish off and weave in any loose ends of yarn.

Round Pineapple Placemat Tips and Tricks
Using Cotton Yarn
It is a really important detail that you use 100% cotton pure yarn and not any kind of acrylic yarn or plolyester. If your placemats are exposed to any hot surfaces, other types of yarn can melt, but cotton can handle the heat well.
Working in continuous rounds
With most round projects you can work in continuous rounds. However, I would not recommend it for this pattern. I did not write this pattern for working in continuous rounds, so it wouldn’t turn out quite right.
Selecting the right hook size
Choosing the right size of crochet hook is a tricky situation. For this crochet pattern I did use a slightly larger hook than the yarn manufacturer recommended, but this one worked out nicely for my stitching tension. If you need to, feel free to try increasing or decreasing the size of crochet hook you use to get nice crochet stitches.
Making the placement in a solid color
It is my preference to use one solid color to make these placemats. However, you can change up the color schemes as you desire for this crochet pattern.
